We’ve all heard the phrase “Eat your greens” at least once in our lives. Leafy, green vegetables form a large part of the bedrock of any healthy and fulfilling diet. They play an important role with their multitude of vitamins, nutrients, and other health benefits. Plus, you have a wide array to choose from — from classics like lettuce and spinach to others like arugula or kale. For some, however, eating greens can seem more like a chore than an actual, enjoyable meal. It all depends on the right recipe — and luckily for you, this amazing cabbage recipe might just be the one you’re looking for!

Amazing Cabbage Recipe

If you’ve been to any supermarket you’re sure to have come across the large cabbage heads in fresh produce. Cabbage, or repolyo in Filipino, is one of the most popular vegetables out there. Its many layers of light green leaves belie a sharp and almost peppery taste that sets it apart from others. Crunchy and tasty, it’s an adaptable vegetable, too. Many have incorporated it in their own cuisines around the world, and many recipes have stemmed from it, too. This cabbage recipe we’ll be making today is sweet and simple. Almost but not quite like chopsuey, this assortment of veggies and pork will for sure satisfy!

What makes this cabbage recipe so amazing?

An assortment of elements make this cabbage recipe just so delicious. Your bright bell peppers, chunky carrots, and juicy pieces of pork just add to the overall festival of smells and tastes that you and your loved ones will surely enjoy. Even further, the wide variety of things to look at in this dish make it just as appealing to the eyes, too! You can’t help but be in awe of how yummy this dish will be.

How else can you cook cabbage?

Like we mentioned earlier, there are just so many different ways you can enjoy cabbage other than in this cabbage recipe. From an easy sauté to a tangy pickled side dish, cabbage is as versatile as it is delicious.

Bulalo

A popular means of using cabbage is incorporating it with our favorite protein. The adaptable and versatile nature of this ingredient makes it an easy go to for dishes like corned beef and even chicken tinola. But the most common sighting of cabbage may be in the beloved, hearty beef stew we know as bulalo! We know how much Filipinos adore stew, especially during long, cool nights. This cabbage recipe includes beef so tender it practically melts in your mouth, alongside other delicious vegetables and a soothing broth. In provinces where this dish is popular, you can often enjoy bulalo over a windy rooftop, overlooking lakes, mountains, and other gems of nature.

Chopsuey

Another beloved cabbage recipe is, of course, the popular chopsuey! There’s rarely any better way to combine all the veggies in your pantry and fresh section. Baby corn, cauliflower, peas, and bell peppers come together in a wild but tasty marriage of textures and layers of flavor. Cabbage complements your other chopsuey components harmoniously, and it’s a great, quick dish for those on the go!

Kimchi Fried Rice

This cabbage recipe might be a bit different from the other two we’ve previously mentioned, and that’s because there’s a certain process your vegetable has to undergo for this dish! We’re talking about pickling cabbage — which turns it into deliciously vibrant, sour and spicy kimchi! The Korean side dish has seen a rise in popularity alongside the rise of Korean culture as a whole. People are starting to realize just how great a side kimchi can be—to almost any dish, really! Pickled radish and cabbage meets with seasonings that give it its irresistibly sweet and spicy layers. Combine it with Filipinos’ favorite food — rice! — and you have yourself the best way to satisfy any K-craving.

Let’s make this amazing cabbage recipe together!

Tenderize the pork

The first step in this amazing cabbage recipe is to boil your pork in order to tenderize it. After boiling two cups of water in a pot, add 3 ounces of pork and continue to boil until juicy. Separate the water, your pork stock, from the pork itself, with a kitchen strainer, and set both aside.

Saute the aromatics

Using that same pot, heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil and sauté your basic onion and garlic. When your onions soften, add the pork and cook it for about 30 seconds.

Add carrots, cabbage, and soy sauce

Next, add your bright orange carrots and umami soy sauce. Cook this combo of ingredients for a minute more before adding your cabbage into the pot. Stir and continue to cook for about 2 minutes.

Toss-in the remaining ingredients

Toss in your bell peppers and snap peas. You should cook this combo of ingredients for about 3 minutes before pouring your pork stock back into the pot. This is when the Knorr Pork Cube comes in, too, for that extra bit of flavor.

Season it well

Stir and cook for another 2 minutes, and season with as much salt and ground black pepper as desired.
