Instantly recognizable from its uniquely sour broth, sinigang is truly in a league of its own. This popular dish is a Filipino native, and, quite frankly, a rite of passage of sorts; itโs a dish that almost every Filipino has had at least once in their lifetime. Coming from the word sigang, which means โto stew,โ this sharp, tart soup is an assortment of ingredients Filipinos all know and love well. Sinigang is so popular and it can come in many forms. But, one of the most popular would have to be the one where fish is its main protein. This fish sinigang recipe is a timeless classic that your loved ones of all ages will be sure to relish in!
What is fish sinigang?
This fish sinigang recipe, like other sinigang recipes, is a hodgepodge of different vegetables in a sour soup base. When it comes to your bases, souring agents can often range from green mangoes, guava, or even santol. In this case, weโll be using Knorr Sinigang sa Sampaloc with Miso to get the umami flavor weโre after. When we combine this with mustard leaves or mustasa, daikon radish, and okra, alongside other vegetables, you get a dish thatโs incredibly hearty but also brimming with health benefits.
But of course the star of this fish sinigang recipe is the fish itself! Here, weโll be using 2 pounds of salmon head. Salmon has a rich, creamy taste all on its own that will perfectly complement the punchiness of your broth. The aroma of all of these ingredients together will surely be enough to make your stomach growl; the taste, all the more!
What does this fish sinigang recipe taste like?
Sour, of course, is the best way to describe this fish sinigang recipe. Itโs the best way to describe any sinigang recipe, really; itโs the sudden and unbridled tartness of sinigang that draws many people to it, after all! Sinigang na Salmon sa Miso is a wonderful soup with a flavor that impacts you upon first bite. Filipinos work with strong flavors, and sinigang is a prime example of this โ not an exception. We donโt shy away from making our food taste as much as possible, and this leads to incredibly mouthwatering results. If youโre serving this to foreigner friends or loved ones, weโre sure that the sudden burst of flavor may catch some of them by surprise! But spoonful after spoonful will surely have them falling in love with this scrumptious, sour stew.
Tip
Your vegetables already do an excellent job of absorbing all the flavors of your broth. If you want to add a little bit of spice, take one of your green peppers and put it in a bowl with patis, then split it open. Sprinkle your pepper-patis mixture onto your salmon, and youโll have an even deeper layer of flavors you can enjoy!
Sinigang recipe variations
Of course, this fish sinigang recipe isnโt the only sinigang rendition out there. Given how much Filipinos love it, it is only natural that many versions of this dish come about. While most of them will stick to the same vegetables and souring agents, what most differentiates one sinigang from the other is the protein sought out. Here are a few examples!
In keeping with the seafood theme, you have the easy and tasty sinigang na hipon. Flavorful shrimp absorbs the delicious broth alongside snake beans, eggplants, and other ingredients. Sinigang na hipon is another popular sinigang variant because of how tasty the dish pairs with a yummy bowl of warm rice.
For a bit of a twist, you can opt for chicken โ but not just any chicken, either! If youโve ever wondered what chicken inasal would taste like with tart sinigang mix, this recipe is for you! Sinigang Mix Inasal na Manok gives you both the sour flavors of your favorite soup with the smokiness of a gorgeously grilled chicken. Donโt forget to dip it in vinegar before eating!
In another attempt to combine the best of both worlds, we have this killer crispy sinigang! Pork is no stranger to sinigang โ but what about crispy, juicy, delectable liempo? Itโs hard not to love liempo, and itโs even harder not to love it when combined with another so-called national dish! This killer crispy sinigang allows your pork belly to marinate in Knorr Sinigang sa Sampaloc Recipe mix, making it sinigang scrumptious inside and out. You wonโt want to have sinigang any other way again!
