There is a beautiful sense of familiarity that probably comes with the thought of Lomi. Filipinos love this classic noodle soup that may have Chinese roots, but has been ultimately accepted and loved in Pinoy cuisine. And the original version with various kinds of meat is great. But should you be tempted by the thought of trying something new, but not too different from the beloved recipe, how about trying some Seafood Lomi?
This dish has all the essentials of a great noodle soup. We have plenty of vegetables, such as cabbage and carrots to spruce up its texture. But to truly upgrade its taste, we have the likes of crab meat, squid balls, and some crab and corn soup seasoning. This makes our dish taste like something you would truly enjoy by the sea without having to work too hard to obtain these accessible ingredients.
Before we dive right into this Seafood Lomi recipe, let me show you some other renditions of the noodle dish! There are many out there that will show you the creativity of Pinoy cooks. But we can start out with the classic that rarely disappoints.
More Lomi Dishes to Recreate
Lomi
I’d say it is quite hard to find someone who does not enjoy a warm, hearty bowl of the classic Lomi. It just has most everything you look for in a dish. It is savory, satisfying, and has a beautifully rich broth. Just be warned that this utilizes quite a long list of ingredients from chicharon to miki noodles to even pig’s liver! But in the end, you get a truly delicious dish.
Pork Lomi
This is a version of the Lomi that is not too far from the original. It just uses less variety of meat as we let the tender, delicious pork belly shine for this one. But I also integrated some Chorizo de Bilbao for a bit of smokiness in the flavor.
Beef Pares Lomi
Want the ultimate comfort food combination? Putting Beef Pares and Lomi together really reminds me of being at home, and receiving warmth from a meal I made with my own hands. This is also a pretty great dish to make as it is both filling and flavorful. The tasty Beef Pares broth complements the salty taste of our Lomi quite well!
Lechon Lomi
Lomi with chicharon can be irresistible due to that added layer of crunch. But if you want to take that element to the next level, and integrate some meatiness as well, I would recommend giving this Lechon Lomi a shot. It is incredibly tasty because of the rich savor we get from the Filipino favorite, which is lechon! But it does not outshine the rest of the ingredients too much as well, and instead, works amazingly in boosting the flavor of the noodles and soup.
Now if you want something that is relatively simple, and has a seafood-y taste, you should definitely go for our main recipe right here. Time to head to the kitchen to cook up a great Seafood Lomi!
How to Make Seafood Lomi
Preparing the garlic and onion
Take 3 tablespoons of cooking oil, and put this in your cooking pot. We will then add 5 cloves of garlic we’ve minced, alongside 1 onion we’ve also minced. Sauté these until your onion softens.
Sautéing the squid balls
Let’s incorporate 8 ounces of squid balls, as well as 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Just keep sautéing everything for 2 minutes.
Building the soup
Now we can mix together 55 grams of Knorr Crab and Corn Soup with 5 cups of water in a separate container. Make sure to stir these together thoroughly, and then pour it into the cooking pot. Keep the heat going, and wait for the mixture to boil.
Cooking some more vegetables
Then we can place our 4 carrots we’ve diced, 8 ounces of kani, 6 ounces of long green beans, and ½ head of cabbage that we’ve shredded inside. Cover the pot after that. Continue cooking for a good 3 minutes.
Integrating the noodles
We’re nearly done! Put your 14 ounces of wonton noodles inside. Crack an egg open as well, and add this. Then stir your soup together, and keep everything cooking for 3 to 5 minutes.
Sprinkling in salt and pepper
Here’s the last step— just add as much salt and ground black pepper as you would prefer. Then you can just transfer your delicious and simple Seafood Lomi to your bowl of choice. This is best to have while hot by the way, and so if you are planning to store it, make sure to reheat before you show down again!
