The sound of sizzling pusit is one that is truly unforgettable. The smell is mouthwatering, and the sight is absolutely mesmerizing –– altogether, it’s a dish really difficult not to love!

Sizzling pusit, or sizzling squid, is a dish popular at inihaws and restobars across the country. Many love to enjoy it with a nice and refreshing pint of beer. You can enjoy sizzling pusit alone or with a cup of rice. Its sauce is great to pour over the rice, so it can soak up its delicious flavors. Whether you enjoy it alone or with rice, though, you won’t be able to help but ask for more.

During the summer, sizzling pusit is a well sought after dish at restaurant and bars by the beach. Because we’re a tropical country, a lot of our seafood is fresh and, frankly, to die for. A lot of our classic meat dishes have seafood alternatives because of this –– take, for instance, squid sisig or bangus sisig!

Grilled or sizzling dishes are always a treat, no matter where you are. Having your own sizzling or metal plates at home is a great investment, because they’re so versatile! You can make main dishes like sizzling pork chop or appetizers like gambas from the comfort of your own kitchen. And sizzling pusit is always bound to be a favorite!

I also tend to enjoy sizzling dishes with a side salad. This Ensaladang Talong always makes for a great partner! I’d also suggest other dishes with simple tastes that can complement the sizzling pusit’s quite strong flavors. And, of course, if you’re looking to unwind after a long day, a cold one is a must!

Working with squid might be a bit intimidating at first. But it’s really quite easy, and making sizzling pusit is an easy enough recipe even for first timers. Try it today!

How to Make Sizzling Pusit

Making sizzling pusit is really quite enjoyable. The most important aspects of sizzling pusit are the pusit or squid itself and the sauce you cook it in. Make sure to clean your 2 large pieces of squid beforehand. For your sauce, slice your carrot and chop your bell pepper into squares. Wedge your onion and crush your garlic gloves as well.

One additional step for sizzling pusit that you can choose to do is to marinate your squid beforehand. This will ensure that the squid has its own flavor, even without the sauce. With a simple combination of soy sauce, vinegar, salt, ginger, garlic, and sugar, you already have an ideal marinade! You can toss your pusit in this marinade, and let it sit for about half a day. So, if you’re having this for dinner or bar chow, you can start your prep in the morning. Of course, this is only an optional step. If you’re short on time, you can still make a delicious sizzling pusit without this.

To begin making your sizzling pusit’s sauce, heat 2 tablespoons of margarine in a pan. Add a teaspoon and a half of all-purpose flour and continue to stir. Now is also the time to add half a piece of Knorr Shrimp Cube. It is important to let the cube melt before adding the other ingredients.

Now, add a teaspoon of Knorr Liquid Seasoning, a quarter cup of banana ketchup, a quarter cup of cooking wine, and half a cup of water. Keep stirring your sauce is brought to a boil. Complete the sauce by adding garlic and onion powder. All these flavors coming together will produce an aromatic, irresistable smell! Taste your sauce every so often until you get your desired taste. Afterwards, set it aside. The sauce will be poured over the masterpiece towards the end of the cooking process.

Let’s cook the veggies and squid, shall we? Heat oil in a clean pan and sauté ginger and onion. Do this until your onions separate and begin to become slightly tender.

Gradually, stir in your carrots and celery. Cook these for a minute before adding the bell pepper and squid. Continue cooking for 2 minutes afterwards, and then season with salt and pepper. Easy, isn’t it?

Now it is time to complete our dish. On a metal plate, heat 1 ½ tablespoons of margarine. As it sizzles, toss in the veggies and squid. Stir. Pour the sauce all over, and gently but evenly toss the squid in it in order to absorb its flavors. Quickly serve this as it sizzles.

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces squid (large) cleaned
  • 1 piece carrot sliced thinly
  • 1 piece bell pepper cut into squares
  • 1 piece onion wedged
  • ½ teaspoon ginger minced
  • ½ cup celery stalk sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 ½ tablespoons margarine
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

Sauce Ingredients:

  • ½ piece Knorr Shrimp Cube
  • 1 teaspoon Knorr Liquid Seasoning
  • 1 ½ teaspoon all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup banana ketchup
  • ¼ cup cooking wine
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons margarine

  • metal plate (sizzling plate)

Instructions

  • Make the sauce by melting 2 tablespoons of margarine in a pan. Add flour. Stir and continue cooking using medium to high heat for 1 minute. Add Knorr Shrimp Cube. Continue stirring until all ingredients are well blended. Add Knorr Liquid Seasoning, banana ketchup, cooking wine, and water. Stir and let boil. Season with garlic powder and onion powder. Set aside.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan. Sauté ginger and onion until the layers of the onion separate.
  • Stir-in carrot and celery. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Add bell pepper and squid. Continue cooking for 2 minutes. Season with salt and ground black pepper.
  • Heat 1 ½ tablespoons margarine in a metal plate. Add squid and vegetables and pour sauce all over.
  • Serve while sizzling hot.
