When it comes to food, why go for anything that won’t leave you happy and satisfied? I’m sure that for some, meals are just a matter of necessity instead of a source of joy. But I believe that you don’t really need much to make a delicious dish happen. Just take a look at the ever light yet perfectly savory Sarciadong Pechay! This is a dish that truly makes use of simple, budget-friendly ingredients for an even simpler cooking process.

What is Sarciadong Pechay?

What’s the first thing you think of cooking when you are in a rush? For me, Sarciadong Pechay is one of the recipes that easily comes to mind because all you really need to do is combine a bunch of commonly used ingredients in one pan. That’s really all there is to it! That’s why I can easily recommend this to people who are still figuring out how to move around the kitchen.

Now if you’ve had scrambled eggs before, as most of us have, this is a dish that is somewhat similar, but definitely, definitely more flavorful. Like every sarciado dish, this has a great sauce made of tomatoes and eggs. We mix that with some refreshing pechay for a truly tasty dish. One of the people I spoke to about Sarciadong Pechay described it as one of their favorites because it is able to highlight the flavors of each of its components perfectly.

You may also be more familiar with the rendition of this dish that has fish. And I can tell you now that Sarciadong Isda is definitely a great recipe to try too! But Sarciadong Pechay makes for a great alternative with less ingredients, and is also perfect as a vegetarian substitute.

Sarciadong Pechay for Weight Loss?

If the taste nor the budget factor of this dish is not enough to convince you to try it out, you may wanna stay tuned for its health benefits. This is actually quite a great dish to add to a low carb meat plan due to its use of eggs and veggies. And cabbage in particular is a low-calorie ingredient that is perfect for when you need energy, but also something that would help manage your weight.

We need a few more ingredients to make this dish work though so keep reading to find out! Luckily, you will not need expensive ingredients for this.

Sarciadong Pechay Ingredients

As the name may already tell you, we will need pechay– 3 bunches of it to be specific. Then beat 2 eggs, and mince 5 cloves of garlic and 1 onion. Another thing you will need are 2 tomatoes. Get ready with 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, and some fish sauce and ground black pepper as well.

How to Make Sarciadong Pechay

1. Sautéing the vegetables

Do you have your cooking oil ready? Just put this in a pan, and apply heat. Once hot, you may add your garlic, onion, and tomatoes. Sauté these together before incorporating the pechay. We will sauté everything again but just for 20 seconds. After this, you may pour your water inside, and wait for this to boil.

2. Cooking the eggs

Now it’s important for us to do this step gently– pour your beaten egg carefully around the pan. Then stir the ingredients together. Keep this all cooking until the eggs begin to solidify.

3. Seasoning the dish

All we have to do now is add fish sauce and ground black pepper to taste.

How to Serve Sarciadong Pechay

And that’s how you create some easy, rich Sarciadong Pechay– all in three steps! You can transfer what you cooked to a serving plate of choice. And you will definitely want to serve this alongside some hot rice.

How to Store Sarciadong Pechay

You may have ended up cooking a little too much Sarciadong Pechay than you could eat. That’s all well and good because we may store this in our fridge. Just wait for the Sarciadong Pechay to cool down to room temperature. Place the leftovers in an airtight container, and refrigerate this. We can safely store the Sarciadong Pechay this way for about 5 days.

Can you Freeze Sarciadong Pechay?

The great thing about Sarciadong Pechay is that you can actually freeze this to make it last longer! And you can keep this in a freezer bag or an airtight container. And then once you’ve popped the Sarciadong Pechay in the freezer, you may keep it there for around a month.

I truly love introducing recipes that would not break the bank, and are at the same time easy to cook up. If you have any suggestions for dishes, feel free to list them in the comments section below, and help widen the range of recipes here at Panlasang Pinoy!
